What Happens During a Root Canal?

You’ll meet with Dr. Osterhoudt for a consultation. Once you are cleared for the procedure, you’ll receive local anesthesia to numb your mouth before a dental dam is used to isolate the tooth. After gaining access to the inner chamber, pulp, and root canals through a small opening in the crown, we will clear out the diseased areas before removing the pulp and sanitizing the tooth. A biocompatible substance known as gutta-percha will then be placed within the tooth to help it maintain its shape and structure. Once the tooth is sealed, a custom-made dental crown will be placed on top for maximum protection.
